Personal Thoughts
Oh boy. What can I even say about this album? It's been one of my favorites for years and years. I remember when it was announced in... 2017? I remember being at a church activity and scrambling on my phone to find the track list and see what we were getting, and being THRILLED to find Unbreakable Chains on there. (Sadly it didn't end up being one of my favorite tracks; too much Sora in there, not enough Vanitas. Then again, I'm more of an Enter the Void Stan.)
That said, there's so much else to love about this album. The Birth by Sleep soundtrack never gets enough love I feel like, so it was awesome to see so many tracks from it here. Also, Re:Coded! Re:Coded doesn't have a ton of new music, but what it does have is awesome and I was glad to see it represented here. "Xion" is very clearly the capstone of the album and is incredibly magestic and beautiful, even if "At Dusk, I Will Think of You" beats it out in my heart for sentimental reasons. "Bounce-O-Rama" is hilarious as a reference to the Seph"pooh"roth jokes that were big at the time. "Passion (Piano Duet)" is apparently underrated; it reminds me of the Kingdom Hearts piano covers I'd listen to back in high school.
I liveblogged listening to the tracks and finding all the motifs I could on my tumblr back in the day. Here is a chronological tag of all those posts. Warning that I had not had the "xD"s beaten out of me yet. Simpler times... Man. I wish I could still hold out hope for a 3rd Destati album. I miss them terribly.
Overall this is THE classic KH tribute album of all time, and even if you don't know Kingdom Hearts, the music is just that good.
